The Town Planning Organization was established in 1972 to deal physical planning and development of towns and cities. The Town Planning Organization is to secure well-balanced and planned development of the major urban centers of the State as well as small and medium towns. The Chief Town Planner, Jammu/Kashmir as head of the Department. Its main functions include preparation of Master Plans of different towns of the state, Planning Schemes, Development Plans, tourist destination areas and rehabilitation schemes. It also conducts surveys, studies, prepares technical reports and documentation of projects.
